Have both parents been health tested?
Ask to see the results for the cavalier parent and the poodle parent. An ad that says “health tested” isn’t proof.
Which tests has the cavalier parent had?
Dogs Australia’s list for breeding cavaliers is a yearly heart test, a specialist eye test, DNA tests for curly coat/dry eye and episodic falling, and an MRI for syringomyelia where one is available.
Which tests has the poodle parent had?
For a toy or miniature poodle, Dogs Victoria says a DNA test for progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) should be done. It names unstable kneecaps and Legg-Perthes disease as concerns too. A standard poodle has other tests.
What’s your source number or breeder number?
Almost every Victorian dog and cat ad must show a source number, rehomers included. Check it yourself before you pay. How to check a seller’s number
Are the puppies vaccinated and microchipped?
Ask for vaccination dates and each puppy’s microchip number. How to check a seller’s number
What’s in the puppy pack?
Expect a vaccination card, microchip transfer papers, food and care notes.
Toy and miniature cavoodles
Smaller sizes have their own page. Ask how big both parents grew.

Before you buy any puppy
Meet the puppy and its mother first
Visit where it was raised before you pay anything, including a deposit. A video is a first look. Seeing the parents is the best way to avoid a puppy or kitten farm.

Cavoodle questions
How big do cavoodles get?
It depends on the parents. No Dogs Australia breed standard sets a cavoodle’s size. The cavalier’s standard gives a weight of 5.4 to 8.2 kg. The poodle standards put a toy under 28 cm at the shoulder, a miniature at 28 cm to just under 38 cm and a standard at 38 cm and over. Ask how big both parents grew.
Are cavoodles good with kids?
It depends on the dog. The cavalier’s breed standard describes a friendly, non-aggressive dog, and the poodle’s a dog with a good temperament. In a 2026 study by Royal Veterinary College researchers, UK owners’ answers put cavapoos (cavoodles) worse than their parent breeds in 11 of 24 behaviour comparisons, aggression and fear among them, and better than cavaliers for trainability. Meet the mother to see her temperament. Supervise children with any dog at all times.
How long do cavoodles live?
We haven’t found a lifespan for the cross from a breed standard or an Australian breed body. Dogs Victoria gives an average life span of 12 to 15 years for the cavalier and for toy and miniature poodles, and 10 to 12 for standard poodles.
Are cavoodles hypoallergenic?
No. The Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) says all dog breeds cause allergies, though some shed less dander. No Dogs Australia standard says what coat a cavoodle has: the cavalier’s is long and silky, and the poodle’s dense and curly. If allergies are the worry, an allergy specialist can test for a pet allergy before you commit.
How much is a Cavoodle?
We show a price range once 8 listings from 3 sellers have asked a price. Size, colour and health testing drive the price.
How do I know a seller is genuine?
Every seller passes an ID check before their first listing, and each listing shows its checks and their dates. Then meet the seller and the animal in person before you pay anything, including a deposit. For a breeder’s puppy or kitten, meet its mother too. Ask for the vet check and get papers at handover.
