Our roadmap

What’s done, what’s coming up, and what we’re still sniffing around.

No dates here. Plans can change, so nothing on this page is a promise about what’s next. Nothing under Coming up or Exploring is open yet, so a screenshot of this page doesn’t show that any seller has been checked.

Coming up

We’re here, nose to the ground.

  • ListingsFree to list, with a one-off $9.95 ID check before your first listing.

Dogs, cats, small pets, birds, livestock and some reptiles, from breeders, owners and rescues, within each state’s rules. Some animals can’t be listed.

Rescues and shelters: once we’ve checked the organisation, the ID check will be free for the person who runs its account.

Sellers: get an email when listings open

  • An ID check for every sellerEvery seller will pass an ID check before their first listing goes live.

Stripe will run it, with a photo ID and a selfie.

What it won’t do: It doesn’t prove a seller is honest. It also doesn’t check the animal, so it won’t show that the animal is real, that the seller owns it or that it’s healthy.

  • Microchip checksWe’ll check dog and cat microchip numbers.

What it won’t do: It won’t show who owns the animal, or whether it’s been reported lost or stolen, and it won’t cover every registry.

  • Message the SellerYou’ll talk to sellers on the site, with scam warnings built in.

What it won’t do: The warnings won’t catch every scam, so meet the seller and the animal in person before you pay anything.

  • The name to payOnce a seller replies, buyers will see the seller’s checked name, from their ID check.

Pay only into an account in that name, once your bank says the name matches and you’ve met the seller and the animal.

What it won’t do: A matching name doesn’t make a payment safe, and this isn’t a payment service. We don’t hold or protect the money.

  • Report buttonsYou’ll be able to report a listing or a conversation right from the page.

Until then, our Report a Concern page has who to contact and how to reach us.

    Report a Concern

  • Deposit receiptsA receipt you and the seller will both accept on the site, once you’ve met in person.

What it won’t do: It only records what you and the seller both confirmed. We don’t see the payment or check it was made, and it won’t get your money back.

  • ReviewsBuyers will be able to say what they thought of the seller.
  • Saved searchesWe’ll email you when a match for your saved search is listed.
  • A help chatYou’ll get quick answers when you’re stuck.

Exploring

Still sniffing, and it may never happen.

  • A safer way to pay depositsNot available today, and there’s no date.

We don’t hold or protect payments between buyers and sellers today. Buyers pay sellers directly, and we take no part of what they pay. We’re exploring a safer way to pay deposits in future, but it isn’t available, there’s no date, and it may change.

For now, meet the seller and the animal in person before you pay anything, including a deposit. For a breeder’s puppy or kitten, meet its mother too.

If anyone says we offer a deposit service, or wants a deposit through us, it isn’t us.
